The Richest Uranium Mine on Earth
The Gaertner pit at the Key Lake Mine is the most productive uranium mine in the world. Uranium rock here is richest where the earth is blackest. At a nearby mill, the ore is crushed, refined, and turned into a powered concentrate called yellowcake. Radiation in this pit can be 7,000 times higher than normal background levels.
