Montréal]
Undoubtedly
one of the pioneers of photography in Canada,
Szilasi has contributed greatly to increase the
status of photography by encouraging recognition
of it as a mode of expression on a par with better-established
media in the visual arts. Concerned only with
the passage of time and the possibility that individuals
or a part of their environment might disappear,
Szilasi displays a uniquely tranquil approach
to photography, marked by a deep desire to record
faces, places, and architecture.
