Raymonde April was born in 1953 in Moncton, New Brunswick,
and grew up in Rivière-du-Loup. She lives and
works in Montreal, where she has been teaching photography
at Concordia University since 1985. Her photographic
work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
Raymonde April’s solo shows include Voyage
dans le monde des choses, organized by the Musée
d’art contemporain de Montréal in 1986,
Les fleuves invisibles, which was produced
by the Musée d’art de Joliette in 1997
and which circulated in Canada and in France until 2000,
Tout embrasser, presented at Concordia University’s
Leonard et Bina Ellen Gallery within the 2001 edition
of the Mois de la Photo à Montréal, and
Raymonde April : bifurcations, shown at the
Centre culturel Yvonne L. Bombardier in 2004-2005. Raymonde
April was awarded the Paul-Émile-Borduas prize
in 2003.
