To perceive
the space of touch, to inhabit it through sound: this
in essence is the experience to which Claire Savoie
invites us. Savoie presents a new version of the installation
Déjà: a monitor embedded in a wall, showing hands
which propose a strange exploration of the gallery space
through groping and creeping movements. A soundtrack
heightens our relationship to this place and highlights
its relief. Savoie's method is intentionally discreet
in order to draw our attention to the way we experience
the space.
Claire Savoie
has exhibited her work in various Canadian cities and
on a few occasions in Europe, in particular at the international
exhibition L'art du monde: tendances critiques 1998,
organised by Beaux-Arts magazine at the Passage
de Retz in Paris. Her work has also been the subject
of many solo shows, in addition to being included in
group exhibitions such as Le ludique at the
Musée du Québec (2001), Signes vitaux at the
Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery (2002), L'autre
en soi at the Musée régional de Rimouski (1999),
and skol@xyz at YYZ Artists' Outlet in Toronto.
Claire Savoie won the Graff prize in 2002
