Jesper
Just lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since the
late 1990s, he has been producing videos in which he questions
the social aspects of male bonding through the exploration
of human and loving relationships. Both sensitive and
humorous, his videos use the language, conventions, and
aesthetics of Hollywood movies to rethink male representation
and heighten the viewer’s level of expectations.
Dance, song, and music play a narrative role in his works,
as evidenced in This Love Is Silent, The
Sweetest Embrace of All, No Man is an Island,
and A Fine Romance. This year, the Christina
Wilson Gallery in Copenhagen hosted his first major solo
exhibition, A Fine Romance. Just’s works
have been presented in a number of group exhibitions in
Denmark and Norway, as well as in Berlin and at the Casino
Luxembourg - Forum d’art contemporain, in 2003,
as part of the exhibition Something About Love.
His videos will be presented this fall at YYZ in Toronto. |
